Lille hosted the Crypto Workshop organized by the French Gendarmerie’s National Cyber Unit from October 5 to 9, 2026, bringing together investigators from 26 countries to learn how to trace cryptocurrency flows on blockchains. France is facing a wave of kidnappings linked to crypto assets, with 135 cases recorded since 2023, including 67 in 2025 and 47 in the first four months of 2026. Europol co-organized the event with Denmark, a first since the training program began. The National Public Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime recorded 88 indictments and 75 provisional detention orders in these cases.
