Ledger: Spy Implant Lands in Europe, Compromised Devices Sold at MediaMarkt

Share

A European user claims to have discovered a spy implant in two Ledger hardware wallets purchased from two different MediaMarkt stores in Europe. The modifications found are identical to those previously detected in tampered devices discovered in Southeast Asia, including additional cables and an LTE cellular module. The distributor implicated is Aqipa GmbH, a company that supplies stores throughout Europe, including MediaMarkt and Saturn, representing over 1,000 stores in 11 countries. Both devices are undergoing analysis, one by Mark Karpelès and the other by Ledger’s teams. No funds have been reported stolen from the European devices so far, but the user is calling for an immediate product recall. Ledger maintains that the issue remains limited for now to the Asian distribution channel linked to CryptoBilis.
