Ukrainian drones hit Yandex data centers, disrupting rides, maps, and payments in Russia

Ukrainian drones struck three Yandex data centers in Russia between October 8 and 11, 2026, hitting facilities in Sasovo, Kaluga, and Vladimir. The strikes disrupted Yandex Go ride-hailing, Yandex Pay payment services, and navigation tools, with Yandex controlling 70% of Russia’s search engine market. Two data centers were completely shut down while a third had key modules disabled, affecting at least three of Yandex’s five primary data centers. The supercomputers Lyapunov, Chervonenkis, and Galushkin, used for training AI models, were damaged in the attacks. Yandex shares fell approximately 4% following the strikes, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as retaliation for Russian attacks on Ukrainian digital networks launched in late September.
