Ledger confirmed a physical exploit affecting its hardware wallets. An unauthorized hardware implant was found in an affected customer’s device, with estimated potential losses reaching $93 million across 311 wallets on five chains. Former Mt.Gox CEO Mark Karpelès detected a hidden module containing a microcontroller, LTE cellular hardware, an antenna, and an eSIM, capable of capturing recovery phrases. The compromised devices were sold through CryptoBilis, whose sale to an unknown buyer in China has raised concerns. Ledger has initiated an investigation and requested the reseller to halt sales pending further review.
