ENS Labs posted a draft proposal on October 11, 2026 to activate ENSv2 on Ethereum mainnet and stop new .eth registrations on the v1 registrar. Existing owners keep their names and can renew them indefinitely on v1 with no forced migration or cutoff date. After activation, all ENSv2 administrative roles would transfer to the ENS DAO, giving it full governance over both versions of the protocol. ENSv2 introduces hierarchical registries with a 28-day grace period versus 90 days on v1, and every new name would be registered on v2. The proposal needs a single DAO vote to take effect.
