Ripple patched a decade-old bug that could have allowed anyone to print unlimited XRP tokens. The vulnerability, discovered by AI firm Veria Labs, could have enabled minting 18 trillion XRP in a single transaction, nearly 184 times the current supply. With a market cap of approximately $94 billion at the time of discovery in late September, this flaw could have become the largest hack in crypto history, exceeding Bybit’s hack by more than 60 times ($1.5 billion). Veria Labs reported the bug on September 22, the fix shipped on the 25th, and public disclosure followed on October 9. According to Cayden Liao of Veria Labs, AI tools can be used by both attackers and defenders, but there are far more ethical hackers than bad actors.
