A security flaw dating back ten years was uncovered in the XRP Ledger by an AI agent developed by Veria Labs. This vulnerability allowed the generation of approximately 18 trillion XRP in a single transaction, roughly 180 times the initial supply of 100 billion tokens, thereby threatening XRP’s $94 billion market capitalization. The flaw combined an integer overflow and a supply protection mechanism failure, was reported on September 22 and patched within three days without going through the network’s usual governance process. Developers chose to bypass the standard amendment procedure to avoid exposing the vulnerability to potential attackers. Veria Labs received the maximum bounty of $250,000 for this discovery.
