A critical vulnerability was discovered in XRP Ledger by Veria AI, an artificial intelligence-based security system, potentially allowing the minting of 18.45 trillion XRP in a single transaction, which is over 184 times the initial supply of 100 billion tokens. This flaw, caused by an integer overflow in XRP Ledger’s payment engine introduced in 2015, could have impacted the entire market capitalization of XRP, estimated at around $94 billion at the time of the report. Developers released an emergency update (xrpld 3.4.1) on September 25 while keeping the source code private for now, a move criticized by the crypto community for lack of transparency. No evidence of exploitation of this vulnerability was found on the public network.
