HSBC and Ant Digital Technologies conducted on October 9, 2026 a technical test in which AI agents autonomously searched for digital services, invoked them, and executed micropayments using HSBC’s tokenized deposit rails. Transactions ran on the Jovay Testnet by pairing HSBC’s Tokenised Deposit Service with Ant Digital’s Anvita Flow network, settling in real time for amounts typically under 2 dollars. Risk controls remained on the bank’s side, confirming that HSBC retained oversight despite the agents’ spending autonomy. This was strictly a technical exercise with no commercial application or live customers. The HSBC-Ant partnership dates back to 2023, with TDS having launched in Hong Kong in 2025.
