Ledger users warned of potential implant in Malaysian devices

Mark Karpelès, former Mt. Gox CEO, posted on October 9, 2026, photos of a Ledger device purchased in Malaysia containing a hidden implant with LTE components, an antenna, and an eSIM concealed behind the screen. Ledger suspended sales from CryptoBilis, a Malaysian reseller, following reports of substantial user losses. A pseudonymous analyst estimates damages at more than $86 million across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and TRON, though these figures have not been independently confirmed. The company is urging customers who bought from CryptoBilis not to initialize their device, as that step is precisely when the seed phrase would be exposed if the device is compromised.
