Robinhood’s margin book hits record $21.6 billion, up 127% year over year

In the second quarter of 2026, Robinhood’s margin book reached a record $21.6 billion, up 127% from $9.5 billion a year earlier. This amount represents more than a fourfold increase from $5 billion in Q2 2024. US margin debt stands at approximately $1.5 trillion, the highest level ever recorded by FINRA. Robinhood requires a minimum portfolio value of $2,000 to trade on margin, with interest rates starting at 5.25%. Historical data shows that sharp increases in margin debt have often preceded stock market declines.
