French lawmakers back stablecoin swap tax in 2027 budget bill

The French National Assembly Finance Committee approved proposals this week to tax crypto conversions into fiat-pegged stablecoins and extend the exit tax to crypto investors. Amendment I-CF1826, submitted by MP Nicolas Sansu, would make conversions into fiat-pegged stablecoins taxable from January 1, 2027, describing the current treatment as a loophole, with gains calculated using weighted average acquisition costs. On the same day, Amendment I-CCF798 by MP Daniel Labaronne would allow investors to carry forward realized crypto losses for 10 years, while a third amendment adopted Thursday would tax unrealized gains when taxpayers with household crypto holdings exceeding 800,000 euros transfer their residence abroad.
