Xeal wants to turn idle EV chargers into AI inference hubs

New York-based charging operator Xeal launched Laitent on September 18, 2026, an edge inference network that leverages unused electrical capacity at EV charging stations to run AI workloads. The company operates one of the five largest Level 2 charging networks in the US, with over 1,600 chargers across more than 500 cities and over 200 MW of permitted grid-connected capacity running at less than 10% utilization during charging hours. Each Laitent Pod, a compact unit sized to fit into a single parking spot, can hold up to 48 Nvidia GPUs. Xeal aims to deploy more than 100,000 Nvidia GPUs across its network and raise approximately $2 billion in project financing over the next 18 months. The first Laitent Pod installation with JVM Realty is targeted for the end of 2026.
