10-year Treasury yield is little changed as Fed’s Waller says more hikes needed, investors await 30-year auction

The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note held nearly steady on Thursday at 5.273%, after touching its highest level since 2002 in the previous session. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said additional rate hikes are needed to bring down inflation, while suggesting they do not need to occur at consecutive meetings. The Treasury Department is set to sell $22 billion in 30-year bonds on Thursday, following Wednesday’s 10-year auction that drew strong support from global central banks accounting for over 80% of the sale. New US jobless claims came in at 197,000 for the week ended October 3, below the 200,000 forecast by economists.
