Republicans are entering the final month of the midterm campaign with $1 billion at their disposal, but increasingly anxious that this financial advantage may not be enough to prevent sweeping losses amid President Trump’s unpopularity, persistent cost concerns and fallout from the war in Iran. MAGA Inc., the Trump-aligned group, had nearly $416 million in cash at the end of August and began ramping up spending in September, forcing it to pay advertising rates more than five times higher than groups that reserved air time last spring. In Texas, a traditionally Republican state, MAGA Inc. spent over $22 million in the past month while Texas PAC spent over $83 million to support Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign. Democrats, with roughly $579 million, are relying on anti-Trump sentiment and candidate quality rather than financial resources. The midterms mark the first national election since the Supreme Court in June erased limits on coordinated spending between political parties and candidates, injecting even more money into a political system already awash in cash.
