Microsoft and Nvidia unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra at a San Francisco event on October 7. This laptop, built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform and the Grace Blackwell superchip, marks the first major hardware refresh for Surface devices since May 2024. The machine features an 18- or 20-core Grace CPU paired with a Blackwell GPU carrying up to 6,144 CUDA cores and up to 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory. AI performance reaches approximately 1 petaflop of FP4 compute, enabling on-device execution of models with up to 120 billion parameters, a capability previously requiring data center infrastructure. Pricing starts above $2,000 for entry-level configurations and can reach between $3,000 and $7,000 for high-end models.
