Former CIA official with Top Secret clearance admits to $194 million fraud, including 298 gold bars and four luxury South Florida properties

David J. Rush, a former senior federal official with a Top Secret/SCI clearance at the CIA, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria to defrauding the government of approximately $194 million. He created fake classified programs to divert public funds and purchase 298 gold bars worth $46.4 million, four luxury properties in South Florida valued at over $100 million, as well as two BMW Alpina XB7s and more than thirty luxury watches. He must pay at least $195.4 million in restitution and faces up to twenty years in prison at his sentencing scheduled for January 28, 2027.
