Princeton computer scientist Arvind Narayanan said at the Computation + Journalism 2026 Symposium at Northwestern University that AI tools could evolve into truth oracles within five to ten years. According to him, current weaknesses of chatbots, such as inventing facts and recognizable writing style, are temporary and will disappear as models improve. A Pew Research Center survey conducted in February 2026 among 5,119 US adults found that 10 percent already treat chatbots as authoritative sources of information. Narayanan urged journalists to develop the expertise needed to oversee content generated by artificial intelligence.
