Amazon’s answer to data center backlash: $1 billion for community college and home energy upgrades

Amazon will invest over one billion dollars over five years in job training, free community college, and energy efficiency upgrades for buildings in communities hosting its data centers. The Built Together program could benefit over 300,000 students and train up to 100,000 workers per year in skilled trades. Amazon will also fund energy efficiency upgrades for more than 30,000 homes and over 300 schools and community buildings. This initiative addresses growing opposition to data centers, with over 100 proposed moratoriums and a poll showing only 35% of Virginia residents would support new facilities in their area.
