Just a few years into working, Gen Z is already the most anxious generation about AI derailing their retirement—51% fear it will cut their nest egg

According to a TIAA survey published on March 11, 2025, 51% of Gen Z believes AI is threatening their ability to save for retirement, 11 percentage points above the national average. Young workers are also 42% concerned that AI could disrupt their career or reduce their earning potential before retirement, compared to 28% for Gen X and baby boomers. Longer lifespans are amplifying their financial fears: 59% fear they will withdraw too much from their retirement savings and run out of money before they die. TIAA CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett advises starting to save with the very first paycheck to take advantage of the power of compounding.
