The public backlash against data centers in the US is spreading to Europe and Asia, increasing risks for investors. In Europe, more than 70 data center projects were rejected or restricted between January and April 2025, with approximately $42 billion in investments impacted by delays and cancellations. In South Korea, residents have been protesting for 172 days against the construction of a data center near their homes in the Geumcheon district of Seoul. Spain now requires these facilities to source 80% of their electricity from renewables, while Denmark passed emergency legislation limiting their access to the power grid.
