Aave Labs submitted a governance proposal on October 2, 2026, to create a memberless foundation in the Cayman Islands. This foundation, governed by the Cayman Islands Foundation Companies Act, would hold legal title to the Aave trademark, primary domains, protocol codebase IP and other intellectual property for the benefit of the Aave DAO. Phase 1 only covers incorporating the entity and appointing an independent director and supervisor, with asset transfers deferred to future votes. Aave Labs and its affiliates are explicitly barred from holding any roles within the foundation. Key decisions on actual trademark and codebase transfers will require separate AIP votes.
