Dogecoin (DOGE) has launched DogeOS, an open testnet for developers to build an ecosystem around the cryptocurrency. This testnet operates as a zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup application layer, providing Dogecoin with compatibility for smart contracts based on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The development team raised $6.9 million in May 2025 through a funding round led by Polychain Capital. The DOGE token will remain the native token of the ecosystem for transaction fee payments. DogeOS aims to host DeFi applications such as lending, perpetual contracts, and prediction markets, but the main challenge remains attracting enough developers and liquidity to sustain the ecosystem.
