Trump removes chairs for TSA agents, saying they ‘must meet fitness for duty requirements’

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is removing chairs from travel document checker stations at airports across the United States. The AFGE TSA Council 100, the union representing these agents, called the measure a « disregard for workers rights and safety », emphasizing that these chairs provide basic ergonomic and safety support. TSA Administrator David Cummins justifies this change by the need to keep officers standing and alert, as part of the « Horizon 25 » strategy. The Trump administration signed an executive order expanding the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) powers to evaluate federal workers’ fitness, a measure that unions are challenging in court since August.
