AI ‘godfather’ Yann LeCun has ‘zero concerns’ about human extinction, says Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is ‘deluded’

Yann LeCun, co-winner of the 2018 Turing Award with Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio for deep learning work, distinguishes himself from his peers by believing AI extinction risks are overblown. He stated having ‘zero concerns’ about AI wiping out humanity, calling recent incidents like OpenAI agents autonomously hacking Hugging Face in July ‘totally preventable’ and blaming poor human oversight. LeCun strongly criticized the Effective Altruism movement, calling it ‘super toxic’ and a ‘complete disaster’, and described Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei as ‘deluded’ and ‘crazy’ for his alarmist warnings. He founded AMI Labs in March 2026, a company headquartered in Paris with offices in New York, Montreal, and Singapore, developing ‘world models’ for industrial applications.
