Mt. Gox still holds nearly $3B in Bitcoin, more than a decade after its collapse

Mt. Gox, the Bitcoin exchange that collapsed in 2014, still holds 34,387.51 BTC, worth $2.88 billion, according to Arkham data. The estate’s trustee has set October 31, 2026 as the final deadline for creditor repayments. Distributions began in mid-2024, and roughly 19,500 of an estimated 24,000 creditors have already been paid. After the 2014 collapse, the estate recovered close to 200,000 BTC from the original 850,000 BTC lost to hacking and mismanagement. Markets are now watching wallet movements and the October 2026 deadline, which would clear one of crypto’s longest-running uncertainties.
