The Cardano Foundation and Brazilian state oil company Petrobras have announced an expanded partnership including two new blockchain applications for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. The collaboration, which began in December 2023 with a blockchain training program for Petrobras’ approximately 40,000 employees, was formalized with Rio’s Pontifical Catholic University in 2025. In December 2025, Petrobras completed its first commercial deliveries of domestically produced sustainable aviation fuel, with an initial batch of 3,000 cubic meters, aiming to meet 100% of Brazil’s domestic SAF demand by 2027-2029. The developed applications include tokenizing the sustainable aviation fuel supply chain to ensure traceability, as well as a decentralized app designed to reward airline passengers flying on routes powered by sustainable fuel. This partnership represents the Cardano Foundation’s first governmental collaboration in Latin America.
