Tether announced the freezing of approximately 550 million dollars in USDT linked to Iran during 2026, including 344 million dollars in April and over 130 million dollars in July, from addresses associated with Iran’s Central Bank. However, a report published by the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation claims that the USDT stablecoin has become one of the main payment methods of the Iranian regime and a financing tool for terrorist organizations, according to the Wall Street Journal. The analysis of 846 crypto wallets sanctioned by the U.S. and Israeli governments revealed that 84 % of them conducted their transactions almost exclusively in USDT. This report has been transmitted to the U.S. Justice and Treasury departments.
