Puffer announced on Sept. 22 that Google Cloud would operate a gateway guaranteeing Ethereum transaction results before final on-chain settlement. This gateway, used first by Puffer’s UniFi network, would enable preconfirmations in approximately 50 milliseconds. The system relies on financial penalties: if a preconfirmation fails, the operator would lose 1 ETH. Both products (UniFi and Puffer Preconf) were still in testing as of Sept. 23, according to CEO Amir Forouzani. The question of actual user compensation in case of failure remains without detailed answer from Puffer.
