Balancer fork’s 6 million BAL ask could cut holders’ redemption value

Share

MAXYZ, a group of former Balancer contributors, is requesting up to 6 million non-circulating BAL tokens to seed a successor protocol. If these tokens become eligible before the proposed wind-down snapshot at the end of May 2027, the current treasury of $9.96 million would be divided among a larger number of tokens, reducing the per-token redemption value from $0.1579 to approximately $0.1442, an 8.7% decrease. In exchange, MAXYZ proposes allocating 10% of the fork’s fully diluted token supply to the Balancer treasury, a conditional right with no realized value today. Decisions on the token grant, IP transfer, and pool timeline remain separate and none have been approved by governance yet.
