A software update from Samsung’s SmartThings platform rendered several connected refrigerators from the Bespoke AI 4-Door series, released from 2024 onwards, inoperative. The appliances stopped functioning with interior lights failing to turn on and cooling and freezing mechanisms not working, causing stored food to spoil. The malfunction occurred just before the Chuseok holiday in South Korea, exacerbating the impact on users. Samsung acknowledged the issue in its online community forums, stating it is taking « emergency measures as a top priority » to resolve the situation before the holiday period ends.
