U.S. Treasury yields tick higher as global bond rout slows

U.S. Treasury yields edged higher on Friday as selling pressure intensified following hawkish Federal Reserve commentary and stronger-than-expected economic data. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.17%, its highest level since June 2007, while the 30-year yield stood at 5.463%, its peak since 2004. Fed Governor Michael Barr signaled that further policy adjustments are expected to bring inflation to target, fueling rate hike fears. Traders are pricing in nearly a 71% chance of a rate hike in October according to the CME FedWatch tool. However, the global bond selloff eased on Friday, with eurozone and Japanese government bond yields edging lower.
