Researchers published a proposal called Shielded Bitcoin aiming to add Zcash-style private transfers on Bitcoin without requiring a soft fork. Developer Vadim Zavodil criticized the approach, noting a new system would start with zero anonymity set, while Zcash has spent years building its own. Pierre-Luc Dallaire-Demers, founder of Pauli Group, raised additional concerns about the quantum resistance of the construction. Eli Ben-Sasson, co-author of the Zerocash paper and CEO of StarkWare, was more supportive of this direction, recalling that the original goal of the Zerocash protocol was to bring privacy to Bitcoin.
