A family of four, including two children aged 8 and 12, was held hostage overnight from September 19 to 20 in Vendin-le-Vieil, Pas-de-Calais, by four hooded individuals who stole 40,000 euros in cryptocurrencies. The perpetrators tied up the victims and subjected the father and his 12-year-old daughter to violence for over three hours to obtain access codes to their digital assets. The father and daughter were injured and received medical attention. An investigation into « kidnapping and extortion » has been opened and assigned to the interdepartmental judicial police services of Pas-de-Calais and Nord, as well as the French Anti-Cybercrime Office (OFAC).
