The US Census Bureau published a record median income of $87,460 for 2025 with poverty declining to 10.2%, yet the United States ranks second worldwide in crypto adoption according to the Chainalysis index. In France, the monetary poverty rate reached 15.4% in 2024, the highest since 1996, but crypto adoption remains lower than in less affected countries, with only 11% of French people holding cryptoassets compared to 20% in the Netherlands. The Chainalysis 2025 index places India at the top, followed by the United States, Pakistan, Vietnam and Brazil, showing that wealth or poverty alone do not explain adoption. The identified determining factor is the loss of confidence in the national currency: in Argentina, 94% of crypto trading volume passes through stablecoins, and in Turkey, 52% of adults hold cryptocurrencies while the lira lost over 300% of its value between 2020 and 2023. The IMF is concerned about this « digital dollarization » which weakens monetary policy transmission in affected countries.
