Ethiopia has cut electricity supply to Bitcoin miners by 75 % due to reduced water inflows in its dams caused by El Nino. Ethiopian Electric Power has lowered its production target by 10 % for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Bitcoin miners consumed roughly 23 % of national electricity while accounting for 41 % of the state utility’s revenue. EEP forecasts that drought could reduce its revenues by 3 % and foreign exchange earnings by nearly 40 %. The priority remains household and local industry electricity supply.
