North Korea’s WaterPlum group stole $10.7 million through fake job interviews targeting crypto, NFT and AI companies. The hackers posed as hiring managers and sent malicious code through fake skill tests to drain victims’ wallets. They also infiltrated crypto firms by posing as employees to gain system access. The group compromised 30,000 devices across over 100 countries and 7,000 crypto wallets over an eight-month period. North Korean state-backed hackers accounted for 76% of total crypto losses in the first half of 2026.
