According to an analysis by TRM Labs published on September 14, 224 victims lost a total of 274.60 ETH, worth approximately $517,205 at the time of transfers, between February 12 and August 11. The victims were lured by fake YouTube tutorials promising AI-built crypto arbitrage bots, which redirected them to fraudulent compiler sites controlled by the operators. A background script replaced the source code pasted by the victim with a malicious contract that automatically drained any balance above 0.05 ETH to the operators’ addresses when the victim pressed Start or Withdraw. The median loss was 1 ETH per victim. TRM Labs identified 234 victim-deployed contracts feeding six operator-controlled collection addresses, and found nine nearly identical tutorials accumulating 310,474 views on YouTube.
