SEC Green Lights Tokenized Stock Trading Despite Clarity Act Fail

The SEC approved a five-year exemption for platforms facilitating tokenized stock trading on Thursday, allowing onchain trading of certain tokenized securities. This decision comes despite the Clarity Act failing in the Senate, where it was rejected by a 50-to-49 vote. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated that the commission was taking this step within its statutory authority to bring America’s capital markets into the digital age. Jamie Selway, Director of the SEC Division of Trading and Markets, called this exemption, nicknamed the « Innovation Exemption », an important milestone for opening capital markets to tokenized securities.
