Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has disagreed with the notion that advancing artificial intelligence will ultimately make cybersecurity unwinnable. He believes AI could actually provide defenders with tools to create significantly harder-to-exploit software, particularly through formal verification, a method of mathematically proving that a program is secure. Buterin revealed that approximately 90% of his personal net worth remains invested in cryptocurrency, effectively betting that sufficiently secure digital systems can be built despite increasingly sophisticated attackers. However, he acknowledged that the main challenge lies in defining what « secure » actually means, a complex problem he illustrated using the encrypted messaging app Signal as an example.
