Meta is developing camera-free smart glasses internally called Luna, potentially launching in October. The glasses feature six built-in microphones for Meta AI and Muse interaction, a side button for activation, and slimmer temples than current models. The device could be unveiled at Meta’s Connect conference on September 23 and 24. This launch follows mounting legal and regulatory challenges to Meta’s current camera-equipped Ray-Ban glasses, including a BBC investigation into unauthorized filming of women and footage of people undressing reviewed by contractors in Nairobi. Police agencies including the NYPD, Department of Homeland Security, and ICE have raised concerns about covert filming in sensitive locations such as jails and government buildings.
