Nvidia, Google and Emerald AI announced on Wednesday the formation of the AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) to develop flexible AI data centers that can adjust their power consumption based on grid conditions. The alliance aims to unlock 100 GW of existing US grid capacity by enabling AI facilities to function as controllable electricity resources rather than fixed loads. AEMA plans to establish technology-neutral standards addressing response speed, duration, predictability and emergency performance, as well as risk-adjusted interconnection pathways for facilities with verifiable flexibility. Emerald AI and NVIDIA are already developing AI factories with energy and infrastructure partners that can respond to grid conditions in real time.
