Deutsche Bank awaits regulatory approval for crypto custody solutions

Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest bank, announced on September 16 its intention to launch a crypto-asset custody service for institutional clients across Europe. This platform will allow clients to securely hold and transfer Bitcoin, Ether, and three stablecoins (USDC, EURC, and EURAU), with advanced security features including hardware key protection and multi-person approval workflows. The bank is awaiting approval from BaFin, Germany’s federal financial supervisory authority, under the EU’s MiCA framework. Deutsche Bank submitted its application for a BaFin crypto custody license in 2023 and partnered with Bitpanda and Taurus for technology infrastructure. The go-live target is late 2026.
