Manchester City coach criticizes focus on controversial Haaland goal

Manchester City beat Manchester United 1-0 in the September 13 derby thanks to Erling Haaland’s 60th-minute goal, which was initially ruled out for offside before being awarded after a VAR review. City had been reduced to ten men following Phil Foden’s red card in the 23rd minute. VAR determined that United defender Patrick Dorgu had played Haaland onside, negating the offside position of City midfielder Enzo Fernandez during the buildup. The PGMOL acknowledged an error of judgement regarding Fernandez’s position, while Enzo Maresca criticized media focus on the refereeing decision. City have won four matches from four under Maresca, with Haaland now having scored nine goals in Premier League derbies.
