Iranian Oil: $61 Million in USDT Frozen, Binance Cited in Investigation

Share

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil forfeiture complaint on September 14 seeking to confiscate approximately $61.19 million in USDT, funds allegedly derived from sales of Iranian oil in violation of international sanctions. Manhattan federal prosecutors claim that two companies incorporated in Hong Kong, Blessed Trust and Hexa Whale, facilitated the conversion and transfer of these proceeds, with an alleged network involving over $1.5 billion in financial flows. Tether has already frozen the targeted tokens held across ten TRON network addresses, and a seizure warrant authorizes their transfer under U.S. government control. Binance is mentioned as a platform used by the alleged intermediaries but is not accused of wrongdoing in this proceeding. The final outcome of the funds will depend on the court’s decision to establish whether the forfeiture is legally justified.
