Hackers tricked Revolut into handing over customer records by impersonating a government agency and then published the data of identified clients, including high-profile individuals, demanding a ransom of 10,000 Bitcoin, worth over $782 million according to The Register. The compromised information included passports, verification selfies, account statements, IBANs, as well as names, dates of birth and home addresses. Revolut confirmed that a limited number of customers were affected and that its systems and customer funds were unaffected. The company blocked the address on detection and alerted authorities and data protection regulators.
