US, UK, and Japan face pivotal rate decisions as oil prices and bond yields surge

Three of the world’s most influential central banks are set to announce their rate decisions within 72 hours, as oil prices exceed $100 per barrel and bond yields reach levels not seen in decades. The US Federal Reserve is expected to announce on September 16 its first rate hike since the pandemic era, while persistent inflation and the US-Iran conflict continue to disrupt energy supply chains. The Bank of England, which held its rate at 3.75% in July, faces significant internal divisions as ten-year gilt yields approach 5.4%. In Japan, the Bank of Japan plans a second rate increase in 2026, raising its policy rate from 1.00% to 1.25%, supported by wage growth that justifies monetary policy normalization.
