FTX: Sam Bankman-Fried Plays His Last Card Before the Supreme Court

Sam Bankman-Fried has petitioned the US Supreme Court to overturn his 25-year prison sentence and the accompanying $11 billion asset forfeiture. His defense argues that the trial prevented him from proving that FTX clients had been fully repaid through the bankruptcy plan. The high court accepts only about 1 percent of the petitions it receives, making this appeal highly uncertain. Creditor distributions were made in November 2022 dollars, when bitcoin was trading at approximately $16,871, a conversion date unfavorable to cryptocurrency depositors. His pardon request to Donald Trump remains pending, but the president publicly rejected it and the Senate unanimously voted against clemency.
