The Liquid Network resumed block production on September 10 after a $320 million hack, though transactions were initially paused and peg-outs remain disabled. Blockstream, the company behind Liquid, has refused to pay a ransom for the stolen funds, treating the incident as theft rather than white-hat hacking. Approximately 3,400 BTC, worth about $268 million and representing roughly 85% of the stolen funds, were recovered through negotiations. Around 598.5 BTC have been set aside as an unofficial bounty to incentivize the return of the remaining funds. The network’s cautious approach is due to a proof-verification cache vulnerability in the Elements software.
