Besxar Space Industries, a Washington-based startup founded by a former OpenAI employee, completed its first test flight on July 6, 2026 during SpaceX’s Starlink 10-50 mission. Two autonomous manufacturing pods called « Clipper Class Fabships » were attached to a Falcon 9 first-stage booster alongside 29 Starlink v2 Mini satellites. The company, which has secured a 12-mission agreement with SpaceX and backing from NVIDIA’s Inception Program as well as a contract with the US Department of Defense, is betting that the ultra-high vacuum environment during the eight-minute ascent can produce ultra-pure semiconductor substrates for AI chips, quantum computing, and defense applications.
